Lerner Announces the Signing of Nordstrom
at Dulles Town Center
Dulles, VA - Lerner Enterprises, the developer of Washington
D. C.'s newest super regional mall, Dulles Town Center, and fashion specialty retailer Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE:JWN) announced today they have signed a letter of intent for a 144,000 square foot store at Dulles Town Center. Construction of the two-level Nordstrom store will begin early 2001 with a grand opening scheduled for September of 2002.
Nordstrom will join Hecht's, Lord & Taylor, JCPenney and Sears, as the fifth anchor store in the high profile Dulles Town Center. "We are very pleased to be adding Nordstrom, one of America's premier retailers, to Dulles Town Center. It represents another great addition to the wonderful quality of shopping choices we have" said Arthur N. Fuccillo, Dulles Town Center and Managing Director of Development for Lerner Enterprises.
"Dulles Town Center provides a strong offering of retail choices to customers. We're excited to join their project and expand our service to customers in the greater Washington, D.C. area," said Jim O'Neal, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Nordstrom's East Coast region.
The 1.4 million square foot Dulles Town Center mall, co-owned by Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CIGNA), opened in August 1999, and features over 130 specialty shops including Abercrombie & Fitch, The Gap, Banana Republic, Eddie Bauer and Old Navy; an extensive food court The Eatery; and a Restaurant Park.
In addition to the mall, the 554-acre Dulles Town Center project includes:
- Dulles Courtyard by Marriott, 156-room hotel scheduled to open in January 2001
- 1,100 residences including Colonnade townhomes and Remington luxury apartment homes
- The Corporate Office Park, phase one currently under construction, which offers 4.5 million square feet of Class "A" office space
- A KinderCare Learning Center, which opened in 1999
Nordstrom, Inc. is one of the nation's leading fashion specialty retailers, with 115 stores in 23 states, including 75 full-line stores, 34 Nordstrom Racks, three Faconnable boutiques, two free-standing shoe stores, and one clearance store. The company also serves customers through its online presence at
Nordstrom.com as well as with its direct mail catalogs.
The retailer other Virginia stores include Tysons Corner Center in McLean, Virginia, The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia, and McArthur Center in Norfolk, Virginia. The company also plans to open a store at Short Pump Town Center in Richmond, Virginia, in the fall of 2002.
