CFC Breaks Ground for New Headquarters Facility

Dulles, VA, October 22, 2009 - Today the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (CFC) Board of Directors held a ceremony to break ground for the company’s new headquarters facility in northern Virginia.  Guests included elected officials, county government officials, executives from the site developer and representatives from the companies who are the design, engineering and construction managers for the project.

The new three-story, 120,000 square foot building is located on a 44 acre site and is expected to carry a Gold level LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating from the U.S. Green Building Council, reducing CFC occupancy costs compared to its existing facilities.

“CFC spent several years in an exhaustive search for the right location to build our new headquarters,” CFC CEO Sheldon C. Petersen said. “We are very pleased to partner with Lerner Enterprises here at The Corporate Office Park at Dulles Town Center.  We believe that this is the premiere work-life center in Loudoun County, a place that we are proud to call our new home.”

“We want to create a work space that will reflect the singular focus of our organization,” CFC President Darryl Schriver said. “That mission is to best serve the financing needs of our rural utility members - and this building will be done in a manner that is responsible to the environment and welcoming to both our members and our 234 employees.”

CFC is a not-for-profit finance cooperative that serves the nation’s rural utility systems, the majority of which are electric cooperatives and their subsidiaries. With more than $20 billion in assets, CFC provides its member-owners with an assured source of capital and state-of-the-art financial products and services.
