Dulles Town Center Begins to Open!

Dulles, VA - After six months of anticipation and excitement, the dreams of thousands of Loudoun and Western Fairfax County residents will take the first major step toward becoming reality when Dulles Town Center officially opens its doors for business this week.

Developed by Lerner Enterprises of North Bethesda, Maryland, the 1.2-million square foot regional shopping mall is located at the intersection of Virginia Routes 7 and 28 in Dulles, Virginia. Dominated by a massive central spire, Dulles Town Center is poised to take its place as both a major shopping - and community - attraction for the area residents.

Anchored by Hecht's, Lord & Taylor, JCPenney and Sears - all of which are fully operational - the mall opens initially with 35 to 40 in-line tenants, representing a broad cross section of products and services. Additional stores will open monthly throughout the spring and summer, culminating with a Gala four-day Grand Opening Celebration, August 12-15, 1999. In addition to unveiling more than 120 retail tenants, including the most extensive Eatery in the metropolitan area, the Grand Opening will feature a live concert, promotional giveaways, children's entertainment, celebrity appearances, radio station remotes, customer incentives and other special attractions.

"Our initial plans called for a late summer opening with more than a hundred tenants in full operation," said Arthur N. Fuccillo, Dulles Town Center project director for the Lerner Development team; "but intense demand and extensive lobbying on the part of our four anchor stores, as well as our focus group research, convinced us to open early to introduce the mall to the general public."

Evidence of such consumer demand is clearly prevalent. Sears, which opened on Saturday, April 17th, reported their new Dulles location was the number-one producer in the entire Northeast for customer sales during the two-day period surrounding their Grand Opening.

"Our customers will enjoy watching this property grow, step-by step," said Dulles Town Center Marketing Director Joan Bauer.
